We’re working hard to bring OC Streetcar to you

OC Streetcar is now in the testing phase, so you will see trains running more frequently, hear the sounds of warning bells, and notice temporary traffic adjustments. We promise it’ll be worth it. Here’s a deeper dive into what to expect.

How we’re making sure OC Streetcar is safe and reliable

Before we welcome passengers, we have to carefully test every part of the OC Streetcar system to ensure it operates safely and smoothly.

What testing looks like in the community

You will see increased streetcar activity over the next few months – a normal part of getting OC Streetcar ready for service. There will also be activity around the clock as crews work to test the system in a variety of conditions.

Streetcars on the go

You will see streetcar vehicles traveling during testing. These aren’t carrying passengers, but there are operators and technicians on board running systems checks and performance evaluations to make sure everything is operating safely and smoothly.

Testing around the clock

Testing will happen at various times including overnight hours, but we do our best to conduct testing in a way that minimizes traffic impacts.

Bells and other operational sounds

You will hear bells and other sounds. These audible signals are standard safety items and will be a regular part of service once the line opens, so we want to make sure they all work before we welcome riders.

Planned traffic and road closures

There will be some temporary lane or intersection closures, but we'll communicate them in advance. We appreciate your patience as we work through this critical part of creating a new means of transportation.

Staying safe near the OC Streetcar tracks

As testing continues, please be sure to stay alert near the tracks and follow all traffic signals and posted signs. Never walk or stop on the tracks, avoid distractions so you can travel through the areas safely, and note that streetcars do stop frequently.
