- Purchase a Wave card from our expanded retail network. Cost is $4.00 at retailers. You can also purchase a Wave card from the OCTA Store at a cost of $2.00.

The Youth Ride Free fare benefit allows passengers ages 6 to 18 years to ride any OCTA fixed-route bus in Orange County for free. Wave cards with the youth ride free benefit will be available from local schools and be valid for one-year. During this time period youth, or their parents, will need to apply to convert their Wave card to a permanent youth ride free benefit card, which would expire on their 19th birthday. The application process will be available later this year.

Students enrolled in 9 or more units per semester at a technical or vocational school or other type of higher educational institutional are eligible for reduced fares. To access this benefit through the Wave fare system, they must apply online using a process similar to the current one. The steps below will provide you the information you will need when the Wave fare system begins. Through the application process, your virtual card on the Wave mobile app will be linked to your college reduced fare status and will automatically process your reduced fares when scanning your virtual card on the validator.

Step 1: Download The Wave Mobile App
Before you can apply for your reduced fare status, you must download the Wave mobile app, create an account, and create a Wave virtual card. An account will be required as part of the eligibility process.
- Download the Wave mobile app from the Apple or Google Store.
- Create your account. If you are a current OC Bus mobile user, use the same email address when creating your new Wave mobile account.
- Create your Wave virtual card. You will be required to enter your Wave virtual card number when applying for your reduced fare status. Upon your reduced fare application approval, this Wave virtual card will be designated with your college reduced fare status.
- Once your Wave virtual card is designated with your college reduced fare status and you have a balance on your card, you are ready to ride.

Step 2: Apply for your Reduced Fare Status
Once you have created your Wave account, you will be able to access the new reduced fare application process on octa.net/apply. This application process will require the same eligible documents as the current application, as well as a photograph.
If you currently have a college reduced fare status, you will not need to reapply. You will be asked to fill out a reduced fare transfer application on octa.net/apply that will transfer your current reduced fare status to your Wave account.
