*Non-fuel costs use AAA's 2025 estimate of $0.64/mile, which covers maintenance, insurance, depreciation, financing, and registration. The full AAA average is $0.77/mile at 15k miles/year (fuel accounts for $0.13/mile at national avg gas prices). We use your actual MPG and gas price for fuel instead. AAA details (PDF).

  • Fuel cost per mile = gas price ÷ MPG
  • Non-fuel cost per mile = $0.64 (AAA avg: maintenance, insurance, depreciation, etc.)
  • Daily driving cost = round-trip miles × (fuel + non-fuel per mile) + parking − subsidies
  • Monthly driving = daily driving cost × days/week × 4 weeks
  • Annual driving = monthly × 12
  • Transit cost = the lesser of your actual rides or the Wave daily cap ($4.50)
  • Monthly transit = capped at $69/month (Wave monthly cap)
  • Annual transit = $69 × 12 = $828
  • Your savings = driving cost − transit cost
