Newport Transportation Center Relocation Feasibility Study
Overview
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), in partnership with the City of Newport Beach, is conducting a feasibility study to evaluate potential relocation options for the Newport Transportation Center (NTC). This study will assess whether a potential new location could better support transit operations and meet the future mobility needs of the City of Newport Beach and the surrounding region.
As part of this study, OCTA is evaluating several potential sites, including up to eight locations in the cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Beach, and Santa Ana. Each site is being evaluated using a framework that considers transit operations, ridership and connectivity factors, equity and community considerations, land use compatibility, financial feasibility, and environmental impacts.
Objectives/Goals
The goal of the study is to determine how a potential relocated transit center location can best support OCTA’s transit network while meeting the needs of riders, the surrounding community, and regional planning goals. The study focuses on identifying locations that support safe and efficient transit operations and enhances access to key destinations. Once a preferred site is identified, the study will also develop conceptual station layouts to illustrate how the facility could function effectively within the selected location.
