Valley View Street Bridge To Close Friday Night

Bridge will be closed for 55 hours as traffic is switched to the newly completed east half of the bridge

Nov. 14 2011

ORANGE – Construction crews will completely close the Valley View Street Bridge off of the Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22) Friday night and reopen it Monday morning as part of the Orange County Transportation Authority’s West County Connectors Project.

The closure will begin at 10 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18 and the bridge is expected to reopen at 5 a.m. in time for the morning commute Monday, Nov. 21. The closure will be postponed and rescheduled to the first weekend in December if it rains this weekend.

The following will be closed to traffic:

  • Valley View Street between Old Bolsa Chica Road and Tiffany Avenue
  • Garden Grove Boulevard between Valley View Street to the northbound San Diego Freeway (I-405) Valley View Street off-ramp
  • Westbound SR-22 Valley View Street loop and straight on-ramps

Detour signs will be posted and the suggested route is as follows:

  • From northbound Valley View Street/Bolsa Chica Road, use Westminster Avenue
  • From southbound Valley View Street, use Lampson Avenue

This full 55-hour closure is necessary as part of the Valley View Street Bridge reconstruction. The switch is necessary as crews prepare to demolish and reconstruct the west half of the Valley View Street Bridge. Demolition is tentatively scheduled for early December.

The $277 million West County Connectors project will improve traffic flow by directly connecting carpool lanes on I-405, I-605 and SR-22. In addition, a second carpool lane will be constructed on I-405 between SR-22 and I-605.

Detailed detours for all closures and project information is available at www.octa.net/westcounty.
