Orange County Goes the Distance for Rideshare Week

Thousands of commuters entered for a chance to win an iPad by giving up driving solo

 Oct. 23, 2012

ORANGE – Nearly 4,000 commuters gave up driving solo and shared the ride during Rideshare Week, Monday, Oct. 1 to Friday, Oct. 5.

Rideshare Week encourages commuters to take the bus, train, vanpool, carpool, bike or work instead of driving alone for their daily excursions.

“Sharing the ride is a stress-free and economical way to get where you need and avoids putting wear and tear on your car,” said OCTA Chairman Paul Glaab, also the mayor of Laguna Niguel. “OCTA is proud to help sponsor a weeklong event that enables commuters to save time, money and benefit the environment.”

Commuters pledged to participate in Rideshare Week for a chance to win a variety of prizes including iPads, gift cards to the Irvine Spectrum, movie tickets and bike gear.

Rideshare Week is a part of OCTA’s Share the Ride program, which is aimed at helping commuters find efficient, environmentally friendly and cost effective ways to commute to work. The program, sponsored by the Orange County Transportation Authority, can help commuters find a vanpool, plan a trip by bus or train and find a carpool partner.

Rideshare week is sponsored by OCTA, Anaheim Resort Transit, Enterprise Rideshare, VPSI Inc., Spectrumotion, Kaiser Permanente and Jax Bicycle Center.
