OCTA Seeks Applicants to Serve On Taxpayers Oversight Committee

March 8, 2013

ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is seeking qualified volunteers to serve on the Taxpayers Oversight Committee for Measure M.

The 11-member committee monitors OCTA’s use of Measure M funds and ensures that all revenue collected from Measure M is spent on voter-approved transportation projects.

Committee members will be responsible for overseeing Orange County’s tax dollars and approving changes to the Measure M Traffic Improvement and Growth Management Plan. This plan determines how the funds are allocated by holding annual public hearings regarding the status of Measure M funds and requesting independent audits of any issues involving Measure M projects.

Applications for the 2013-2016 term will be accepted through April 22 to fill four seats, one each in the First, Third, Fourth and Fifth Supervisorial Districts. Orange County residents residing in the First, Third, Fourth or Fifth District are eligible to apply.

The First District is comprised of Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Westminster, portions of Fountain Valley and Midway City.

The Third District is comprised of Anaheim Hills, Orange, Tustin, Villa Park, Yorba Linda and portions of Irvine.

The Fourth District is comprised of Anaheim (excluding Anaheim Hills), Brea, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra and Placentia.

The Fifth District consists of Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, portions of Irvine and Coto de Caza, Ladera Ranch, Las Flores and Wagon Wheel.

Candidates must be at least 18 and willing to participate for a three-year term. Candidates also should demonstrate a history of participating in community activities, ideally with an emphasis on transportation-related activities. The committee meets at 6 p.m. the second Tuesday of every other month at OCTA headquarters, 550 S. Main St. in Orange.

The Grand Jurors Association of Orange County is conducting the recruitment program and will screen all applications and recommend qualified candidates for membership.

For additional information and to request an application, visit OCTA’s Web site at www.octa.net/toc or contact Alice Rogan at (714) 560-5577.
