OCTA Offers Free Bus Rides to Honor Transit Equity Day

OC Bus will be free to passengers on Saturday, Feb. 4. – the birthday of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks

ORANGE – On Saturday, Feb. 4, the Orange County Transportation Authority will offer free rides on OC Bus in honor of Transit Equity Day.

Transit Equity Day has been held annually since 2018 to commemorate the birthday of Rosa Parks, who in 1955 refused to give up her seat on the bus to white riders. Her actions that day ultimately led to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that segregation on public transit was unconstitutional.

“Each and every day, OCTA is committed to offering equitable public transportation,” said CEO Darrell E. Johnson. “We are proud to honor the memory and actions of Rosa Parks by offering free OC Bus rides as part of Transit Equity Day.”

Equity is prioritized in OCTA’s recently released Board of Directors and CEO Initiatives. One of the three key Board initiatives is to provide Equitable, Reliable and Balanced Transportation. For information on OCTA’s equity efforts visit: www.octa.net/equity.

Free rides on Feb. 4 apply to OC Bus and no ticket is necessary to travel. For more information and to plan a trip, visit www.octa.net. Metrolink also is providing free rides on that day.
