Everything You Need to Know

This 3-year transportation program lets you ride OCTA's local fixed-route buses at no additional charge with the OC Bus mobile app or your activated student ID. Now there’s one less thing to spend money on!

What if I don’t own a smartphone or a tablet/iPad to download the bus app, but I need to ride the bus?

We understand that some students may not have access to a smartphone, tablet or iPad to download the OC Bus app and we are here to support you. For students who do not have access to a mobile smartphone, please contact the Fullerton College Bursar’s Office at (714) 992-7006 or email fcbursar@fullcoll.edu to request a physical bus pass.

The Bursar’s Office will be open for students to pick up a physical bus pass on Mondays and Tuesdays only, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (closed on Labor Day, 9/7/2020). The Bursar’s Office is located on the first floor of the 2000 Building along East Chapman Avenue.

Please call the Bursar’s Office when you arrive on campus, and make sure you have a form of identification with you. A member of the Bursar’s staff will meet you near the ATM machine and verify that you are a currently enrolled student for the semester at Fullerton College. Once verification is confirmed, a Bursar’s staff member will provide a student with two passes at a time (50 days apart). Please note that bus passes are not replaceable and cannot be mailed at this time.

How does it work?

When you board, scan the pass on your smartphone or the physical pass.

What is an activated student I.D.?

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the Student Center encoded and activated the OCTA bus pass on the Fullerton College student I.D. card for students who did not have a smartphone and access to the mobile app. During the pandemic, the Student Center is unable to issue any student I.D. cards, so students who are in need of a physical bus pass may contact the Bursar’s Office. Please see details above.

When does it expire?

OC Bus app passes renew each semester upon enrollment. Students must maintain enrolled status to maintain eligibility for the program. All bus passes are non-transferable.

Who is eligible?

Fullerton College full-time and part-time students currently registered for the semester.

Who pays for it?

Starting with the Fall 2019 semester, the first year of this 3-year pilot program was funded by the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP), a part of the Cap-and-Trade Program and the Mobile Source Air Pollution Review Committee (MSRC).

During the second and third years (Fall 2020 to Summer 2022), fees approved by Fullerton College students in April 2019 will pay for the program.

Why am I charged for this fee after the semester started?

Full-time students will see a $5.75 transportation fee and part-time students will see a $5.00 transportation fee posted to MyGateway on September 8, 2020. Students will have until October 2, 2020 to pay this fee before a hold is placed on the student’s record.

Why are students paying for this mandatory transportation fee?

In the spring of 2019, Associated Students supported a proposed partnership with OCTA to implement the Fullerton College Pass Program. With the support of Associated Students, a referendum was placed on the ballot that spring for students to vote on a three-year bus pass program. The first year (2019-20) would be free, but subsequent years (2020-21 and 2021-22) would be paid for by all part-time and full-time students as a mandatory fee each fall and spring semester. The students-at-large overwhelmingly passed this referendum and voted “YES” for the Fullerton College Pass Program.

The first fall semester of the Fullerton College Pass Program, there were 94,337 bus boardings by Fullerton College students from August to December 2019!

What if I am a student that is considered “special admit” or “dual enrollment”–do I have to pay this fee?

All students who are special admit or dual enrollment are exempt from this charge and do not have to pay this transportation fee.

Who can I speak to if I would like to thank Fullerton College for this program or if I have any further questions or concerns?
