Commuters can enter for a chance to win an iPad by participating in OCTA’s Rideshare Week
Sept. 23, 2011
ORANGE – It’s time for commuters to get their share of the savings by giving up driving solo and taking part in this year’s Rideshare Week, Oct. 3 to 7.
Commuters can pledge to take the bus or train, vanpool, carpool, ride a bike or walk for a chance to win a variety of prizes including iPads, gift certificates, Disneyland tickets and a bike gift basket.
Rideshare Week focuses on the importance of commuters sharing the ride to get where they need to go – faster and for less money, stress and wear and tear on the car and the environment.
“I hope that Rideshare Week gives Orange County residents the motivation to try out alternative forms of transportation,” said OCTA chair Patricia Bates, also the Fifth District Supervisor. “We encourage commuters to explore options that can save time and money while also helping the environment by taking cars off the road.”
Participants may enter online at www.octa.net/prizes before Oct. 17 for a chance to win prizes. Winners will be announced and notified Oct. 24.
“I used to drive alone, but I recently started commuting on the bus from my home in Fullerton to my job in Santa Ana,” said David Styffe, who started riding the bus in May. “My main reason to start riding the bus was to save money. I also appreciate the fact that I'm doing something environmentally and socially beneficial. I was surprised about how good it feels.”
Rideshare Week is part of OCTA’s Share the Ride program, which provides employers and employees the most efficient and economical ways to get to work on time. More than 50,000 employees were represented by employee transportation coordinators at this year’s Rideshare Week kick-off meeting.
Rideshare week is sponsored by OCTA, Anaheim Resort Transit, the Walt Disney Company, iShuttle, Enterprise Rideshare, VPSI Inc. and Spectrumotion.
