Environmental document is now available for review and comment as part of efforts to improve the San Diego Freeway through Orange County

ORANGE – Residents and commuters are invited to a public hearing to learn about a supplemental traffic study that looks at impacts to the Long Beach area from a proposal to improve the San Diego Freeway (I-405) through Orange County.
The supplemental draft environmental impact report/environmental impact statement was released on June 28 by Caltrans. The report specifically examines traffic impacts to the Long Beach area that were not included when the project’s draft EIR/EIS was initially released for public review in May 2012.
The report can be seen at www.dot.ca.gov/dist12/405/index.htm.
Caltrans, in partnership with the Orange County Transportation Authority is in the environmental phase of improving the I-405 between the Costa Mesa area and the Orange County/Los Angeles County line.
A public hearing is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24 at Hill Classical Middle School, 1100 Iroquois Ave. in Long Beach. A formal project presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The I-405 is one of the most congested freeways in the county, carrying more than 300,000 vehicle trips in some areas each day. Traffic volumes are expected to increase approximately 35 percent by 2040 and Caltrans and OCTA are proposing to widen the freeway to improve travel conditions for commuters.
