OCTA Transit Operations Running on All Cylinders, According to Federal Review

Federal report issued once every three years finds no deficiencies in all 23 areas reviewed

ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority is proud to report that the agency is operating at the highest level, meeting and exceeding all federal standards, according to a recently completed comprehensive review by the Federal Transit Administration.

Every three years, the FTA completes a thorough review of transit operations and business practices for compliance with federal requirements and the industry’s best practices. The review evaluates compliance with management practices and grant requirements relating to the use of federal funds. No deficiencies were found in any of the 23 areas reviewed.

The FTA reviews – required for transit agencies throughout the U.S. – rarely result in a perfect score, finding no areas of needed improvements. The average review recommends at least nine corrections. This was the second time in a row OCTA received a spotless review.

“These findings from the FTA are another indication of the outstanding work being done every day at OCTA, leading to the highest level of service for Orange County’s transit riders while always prioritizing safety,” said OCTA Chairman Gene Hernandez, also the mayor of Yorba Linda, who reviewed the findings along with other OCTA directors this week.

The review complimented several OCTA programs as among the best they’ve seen nationwide, including in the following areas:

  • Disadvantaged Business Enterprise
  • Procurement
  • Vehicle and Facility Maintenance
  • The Americans with Disabilities Act Appeals Process
  • And compliance with Title VI, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in any program receiving federal financial assistance.
