OCTA’s Transportation Demand Management Plan seeks alternatives to single-passenger transportation
ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority is seeking additional public input in the final phase of developing an innovative transportation plan that will recommend effective strategies for expanding access to alternative travel options and help people shift away from driving alone.
Those options could include carpooling, vanpooling, telecommuting and other technology-enabled innovations such as carsharing, bike sharing and mobile trip planning apps that improve transportation for all in Orange County.
By 2045, Orange County expects to see population growth of nearly 10% and employment growth of 12%, which could lead to more vehicles on the road and more traffic congestion unless convenient travel alternatives are provided.
The Transportation Demand Management Plan aims to provide transportation strategies to improve equity, sustainability, public health and quality of life. Benefits would include improved air quality, healthier travel alternatives and enhanced access to affordable travel options.

As Orange County’s transportation planning agency, OCTA will share the results with local cities and partner agencies for a countywide strategy for advancing, funding and implementing the plan at a local and regional level.
