For Service in the Transportation Industry Bergeson honored for her achievements and dedication
ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) board of directors on Monday honored Marian Bergeson, outgoing member of the California Transportation Commission (CTC), for her commitment and dedication to enhancing transportation.
Bergeson joined the CTC in 2004 and served as chair during 2007. As chair, she led the CTC in distributing the first category of funding under Proposition 1B, which was approved by voters in 2006 to provide approximately $20 billion in funding to transportation related projects. Nearly $600 million of the available money was allocated to Orange County projects.
“Marian’s service has resulted in numerous achievements in transportation,” said Arthur T. Leahy, CEO of OCTA. “Her knowledge and dedication in the industry has truly benefited the residents of Orange County.”
The first woman to serve as a Senator when she was elected to represent the 37th Senate District in 1984, Bergeson led the consolidation of seven separate entities in Orange County into one – the OCTA. She also was instrumental in the approval of Measure M and Renewed Measure M, Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation.
Bergeson’s term on the CTC will conclude this year. Filling the seat will be Lucy Dunn, president and chief executive of the Orange County Business Council.
