OCTA Board Member Miguel Pulido Appointed To National Leadership Role

Pulido will help shape important legislation as chairman of the Energy Committee
ORANGE – The U.S. Conference of Mayors recently appointed Miguel Pulido, mayor of Santa Ana and a member of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) board of directors, to serve as chairman of the Energy Policy Committee.
Pulido will head the 30-member committee that will take action this year on legislation affecting climate protection, sustainable jobs, transportation, community development and housing and public safety.
"We welcome Mayor Pulido as chair of the mayors Energy Policy Committee,” said Tom Cochran, CEO and executive director of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. “Mayor Pulido brings a wealth of experience to the discussion on energy issues, and we look forward to his leadership as mayors around the country lead the charge to make cities more energy efficient and create green jobs. “
In addition to serving 18 years on the Santa Ana City Council, Pulido has been a driving force in transportation improvements since 1997 when he was appointed to the OCTA board of directors. He also serves on the governing board of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), which is responsible for air pollution control and clean air standards to protect public health.
Pulido’s first action as chairman will be to participate in a leadership meeting with key members within the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Seattle Oct. 1 to Oct. 3, to discuss important issues and new initiatives that will support growth in America’s cities.
“I am honored to be appointed to this national position. I look forward to working with the federal government and with cities across the nation as we develop more strategic energy alternatives, address the consequences of climate change and secure legislative initiatives that lay the groundwork for good energy policies,” Pulido said. “I especially hope to use my background as a mayor, an AQMD board member and as an OCTA delegate to best represent the interests of our region here in Southern California.”
