I-5 Central Improvement Project Team Updates Santa Ana Community

OCTA project team members presented to the city of Santa Ana’s Environmental and Transportation Advisory Committee on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at City Hall.

City staff members and local residents participated in the meeting to hear an update on the San Diego Freeway (I-5), Costa Mesa Freeway (SR-55) to Orange Freeway (SR-57) project.

With the project in the environmental phase, the OCTA team outlined the alternatives for adding a second high-occupancy vehicle lane (HOV) or carpool lane as well as suggested alternatives for the southbound I-5 First Street on-ramp.

Committee members asked questions about removing the Main Street HOV on-and-off ramp to add the second carpool lane, as well as the alternatives studied and traffic counts at the ramp.

The city and committee members positively received the signage plan that is being developed for the community. OCTA will present to the Santa Ana City Council prior to the public hearing scheduled for this fall.

OCTA project team members will meet with the residents of Morrison Park Neighborhood Association on Thursday, Aug. 15 to discuss freeway improvements.
