Construction Activities Amplify with Pile Driving For West County Connectors Project

With the start of the New Year, construction crews are making progress on reconstructing  both the Seal Beach Boulevard bridge and the southbound San Diego Freeway (I-405) connector to the eastbound Garden Grove Freeway (SR-22).

As part of the West County Connectors Project, crews in Seal Beach are driving steel or concrete beams into the ground to construct the foundation for the west half of the Seal Beach Boulevard bridge.

Due to the vibration and pounding involved with this pile driving work, OCTA outreach members are notifying residents that this potentially loud and disruptive activity will take place weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Crews also are continuing construction work on the I-405 connector to the SR-22 and have successfully completed another phase of construction.

This involved pouring more than 1,200 cubic yards of concrete onto the underside and center part of the bridge. The project team worked diligently to complete this phase over one 19-hour shift.

As construction continues, crews will require major freeway, ramp and connector closures at night this week until Thursday.

For more information about ongoing projects and closures, OCTA encourages the public to visit the project website.
