Continued double-digit growth in vanpool participation kept Orange County on the move while residents explored new ways to get around.
Through its Share the Ride Program, OCTA helps commuters, employers and everyday travelers explore alternative modes of transportation. Every time a driver leaves a vehicle at home and instead commutes by bus, train, bike, carpool or vanpool, it reduces traffic congestion and improves air quality. Last fiscal year, OCTA approved and began site location research for a pilot bike sharing program with the City of Fullerton that will ultimately feature 15 stations conveniently located throughout the city including the Fullerton Train Station. This program will make it easier for commuters to begin and end their work days with an alternative travel option that allows them to leave their cars at home. Residents and commuters were encouraged by OCTA outreach efforts to employers throughout Orange County and enthusiastically embraced vanpooling. During the fiscal year, the number of active vanpools grew from 408 to 460, an increase of nearly 13 percent.
