HIGHLIGHTS
Rideshare Week success During Rideshare Week 2013, nearly 4,000 people pledged to try an alternative way to get to work rather than driving by themselves. The potential 437,000 driving miles saved during that week made Orange County just a little greener.
Average Vehicle Ridership OCTA processed 50,753 Average Vehicle Ridership (AVR) surveys for Orange County employers. AVRs measure the ratio of employees to vehicles and can help employers determine ways to promote alternative modes of transportation. Many employers establish their AVR with OCTA’s assistance. OCTA provides the guidance, tools, calculations and data for the reports at no cost to employers.
Bike Month During Bike Month 2013, OCTA hosted several events to encourage commuting by bike. In addition, 1,215 people pledged to ride their bikes a total of 244,358 miles.
BikeShare program During the fiscal year, OCTA began planning efforts for a bike sharing pilot program located in the city of Fullerton. OCTA’s BikeShare program will have 15 stations located throughout the city of Fullerton. Best suited for short, point-to-point trips, bike sharing provides a flexible active transportation choice and a ”last mile” connection between transit and one’s final destination.
Vanpool program OCTA’s Vanpool Program accounted for 1,226,662 vanpool passenger trips during fiscal year 2012-2013.
Vanpool growth Over the last year, 52 new vanpools were added, increasing the number of active vanpools from 408 to 460 which represents nearly a 13 percent increase. This is the second year in a row that vanpools have increased by double digits.
