Perhaps the most visible results of a year filled with accomplishments are those achieved on our freeways. During the past fiscal year, many milestones have been reached, highlighted by the completion of the I-5 Gateway Project that widened Interstate 5 from the Los Angeles County and Orange County line through Buena Park. It was the last major freeway project under Measure
M1. Yet it was just the beginning
for a host of projects that either began
construction or were pushed through
critical design and environmental
study phases. All told, most of the
eight freeways that crisscross the
county saw improvements.

I-5 Gateway Project completed The project saw Interstate 5 (I-5) rebuilt through Buena Park. This was the last major freeway project under Measure M1, Orange County’s original transportation sales tax. Photos

First Measure M2 freeway project A new eastbound lane on SR-91 between SR-241 and SR-71 opened before a single dollar of M2 revenue was collected. This was the first Orange County freeway project to receive funding under the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

West County Connectors Project launch Construction began on the West County Connectors Project to add carpool lanes and connector ramps between SR-22, I-405, and I-605. Photos

Oso Parkway offramps Construction was completed on I-5 at Oso Parkway, with the Oso Parkway overhead bridge open to traffic— easing a south county bottleneck. Photos
