Freeway Accomplishments Interstate 5 (I-5) Projects

Environmental studies were in progress for two projects along the I-5: between SR-55 and SR-57 (Project A), and between the SR-73 and El Toro Road (Project C).

OCTA began the final design for improvements between Avenida Pico and San Juan Creek Road (Project C) (Project D).

The project study team (PST), consisting of staff from OCTA and the cities of Laguna Hills, Lake Forest, and Laguna Woods, identified four alternatives to update and improve the I-5/El Toro Road interchange. (Project D)

Caltrans completed the final design for the reconstruction of the interchange at SR-74 in San Juan Capistrano. (Project D)

State Route 55 (SR-55) Projects

OCTA continued the environmental study to increase capacity on SR-55 between Interstate 405 (I-405) and the I-5. (Project F)

State Route 57 (SR-57) Projects

Construction began for a new northbound lane from Katella Avenue to Lincoln Avenue, and construction was 55 percent complete on a new northbound lane from Orangethorpe Avenue to Lambert Road. (Project G)

State Route 91 (SR-91) Projects

OCTA and Caltrans were in the pre-construction phase for a new westbound general-purpose lane between SR-57 and I-5. (Project H)

Caltrans was finalizing design to improve traffic flow at the SR-55/SR-91 interchange (Project I). OCTA staff began right-of-way activities in anticipation of the project’s construction.

Construction to add a new six-mile general purpose lane in both the westbound and eastbound direction of the SR-91 between SR-55 and SR-241 was 65 percent complete. (Project J)

OCTA continued working with the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) to extend the 91 Express Lanes eastward from its current terminus in the city of Anaheim to Interstate 15 (I-15) in Riverside County, and to add one general purpose lane in each direction from the SR-241 to the I-15. (Project J)

Interstate 405 (I-405) Projects

OCTA released the draft EIS/EIR to add new lanes in each direction on the I-405 between SR-55 and Interstate 605. (Project K)

OCTA initiated a PSR/PDS to explore alternatives to add capacity on the I-405 between SR-55 and the El Toro “Y.” (Project L)
