Northbound I-5 Off-Ramp to Camino Las Ramblas

Beginning on Friday, July 17, the northbound I-5 off-ramp to Camino Las Ramblas will close continuously for approximately nine days while crews perform work to move the off-ramp east of its current location to accommodate an additional lane on the I-5 freeway. Activities during the closure will include demolition of the existing ramp and paving for the newly aligned ramp.

During the nine-day closure, the northbound I-5 off-ramp to PCH / Beach Cities will be closed at night in conjunction with the northbound I-5 off-ramp to Camino Las Ramblas. This ramp will not be closed during the day, and will serve as a detour for motorists needing access to Camino Las Ramblas. Please see below for specific closure times and detour information:

Suggested DAYTIME Detour:
Monday through Friday, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

From the northbound I-5, exit PCH / Beach Cities / Camino Las Ramblas and keep left at the fork (PCH / Beach Cities). Continue on PCH and exit Doheny Park Road. Turn left on Doheny Park Road. Access the PCH loop on-ramp on the right. Continue on PCH to Camino Las Ramblas.

Suggested NIGHTTIME Detours:
Monday through Friday, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Saturday, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Sunday, 10 p.m. to 9 a.m.

From northbound I-5, exit San Juan Creek Road / Camino Capistrano. Turn left onto Valle Road. Turn left onto San Juan Creek Road. Turn left onto Camino Capistrano to access PCH / Camino Las Ramblas.

From northbound I-5, exit Avenida Pico, turn left. Turn right on El Camino Real to access PCH / Camino Las Ramblas.

Project Description

This 5.7-mile project extends from Avenida Pico in San Clemente to San Juan Creek Road in San Juan Capistrano. The four-year, $230 million project will:

  • Add a carpool lane in both directions on I-5 between Avenida Pico and San Juan Creek Road
  • Improve the sight distance on the southbound horizontal curve north of PCH
  • Reconstruct the interchange at Avenida Pico, including widening the northbound Avenida Pico on-ramp to three lanes, and provide dual left-turn lanes to both northbound and southbound Avenida Pico on-ramps
  • Add soundwalls where needed

Weekly Closures

Nightly closures are plotted on a Google Map and includes specific closure times as well as recommended detours. This $230 million project is funded in part by Measure M2, Orange County's half-cent sales transportation tax. In addition, OCTA is funding the work with a combination of Measure M2 local sales tax and state and federal funding.
