OCTA Workshop Seeks Public Input to Improve Bikeways in Orange County

Residents may attend and offer ideas for improvements

ORANGE – With more than 800 miles of bikeways in Orange County, planners are looking to the public for feedback on ways to improve the network.

The public is invited to attend a public workshop that will describe the planning process and gather ideas from residents to update Orange County Transportation Authority’s (OCTA) Commuter Bikeway Strategic Plan.

The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, July 12, at OCTA headquarters, 600 S. Main Street in Orange.

“The public’s input is essential in updating our bike plan,” said Chris Norby, Chairman of OCTA. “With their help, we will be able to accurately reflect our county’s bikeway network.”

Key components of the plan include surveying the existing conditions, identifying improvement opportunities and prioritizing needs to support the development of a safe and convenient biking network.

The strategic plan was developed in 1995 to create a comprehensive blueprint of existing bikeways in the county and propose new facilities to complete the network. Once it is updated, cities have the option of adopting the plan, which makes them eligible for state funding. OCTA also uses the plan as a reference for reviewing other transit and freeway projects.
