Get Arrival Times on Your Cell Phone

Text4Next is a pilot program that lets Metrolink customers use text messaging on their cell phones to get the next three scheduled times the train will arrive at a specific station. The service is currently available at all 21 stations served by the three Orange County Metrolink lines (OC, IEOC and 91 Lines). Depending on the results of the pilot program, OCTA and Metrolink may explore rolling out this service for the entire Metrolink system.

What is Text4Next?

Text4Next is a convenient way to receive scheduled Metrolink train schedules using the texting feature on your cell phone. All you have to do is send a text message to phone number 628246, enter the keyword train, enter your beginning station identifier and your ending station identifier and hit send. You will then receive a text message back with the train number and train arrival time for the next three scheduled train trips based on the time the text message was sent.

This service is currently available for the three Metrolink lines in Orange County (OC, IEOC and 91 Lines). For a list of station identifiers, click here.

Times for Future Trips

If you want to check times of future trips, let’s say your ride home in the afternoon, you can also get that information. In addition to the station identifiers, you will need to add the time and/or date.

Rules for success:
Follow these simple rules to ensure you get your desired result. If you do not receive a return message in 2 minutes or receive an error message, check your input data.

  1. You must enter the key word first: train
  2. You must enter the information in the proper sequence: train, start station, end station, time, date
  3. You must enter one space in between each piece of information
  4. For time, you can enter any time format, but must include "a" for AM or "p" for PM when entering non-military time
  5. For date, you must enter in the following format: MMDDYY

How do I opt-in to for OCTA’s Text4Next service?
Currently, you can only receive bus information from OCTA’s Text4Next program when you initiate the text message. In the near future, OCTA will be offering customers the option to opt in to OCTA Alerts to receive specific bus route rider alerts simply by texting OCTA to short code 628246 (OCTAGO).

How do I discontinue receiving OCTA SMS messages?
Once you have subscribed to OCTA Alerts, to discontinue receiving Text4Next messages from OCTA, you will simply text “STOP” to 628246 and you will be removed from the list.
