Celebrate the Year of the Snake

Lunar New Year is here. It’s a very festive time of the year with parades and family gatherings. There’s no better way to celebrate the occasion than to attend the 114th Annual Golden Dragon Parade and Festival in Los Angeles Chinatown.

The Golden Dragon Parade is a colorful and festive celebration of Chinese New Year. The parade features elaborately decorated floats, marching bands, many dignitaries and cultural performances by some of the nations best Chinese acts. Enjoy the cultural workshops and sample the many gourmet food trucks at the event. The Chinese New Year Festival is free and open to all ages.

Join us Saturday, February 16, 2013, 8:00 a.m., at the Irvine Metrolink Station. Spin the prize wheel for a chance to win a FREE round trip Metrolink ticket and other prizes! Take Metrolink to Chinatown

After the fun at the Irvine Station, board Metrolink Train 661 to Los Angeles Union Station departing at 9:00 a.m. The train arrives at L.A. Union Station at 10:30 a.m. From Los Angeles Union Station, show your Metrolink ticket and transfer for free to the Metro Gold Line and exit at the Chinatown Station (first stop). Gold Line trains depart every 10 minutes. From the Gold Line station, walk west on College Street, then turn left on N. Broadway to the parade and festival. The parade begins at 1:00 p.m.

Returning Home Is Easy

After the parade and festival, stroll through Chinatown and return to the Gold Line Chinatown Station. Depart Gold Line Chinatown station at approximately 4:00 p.m. and arrive at L.A. Union Station. (Gold Line trains depart every 15 minutes.) Take Metrolink Train 664 from L.A. Union Station at 4:40 p.m. to stations south. Check the schedule below.

Special $10 Weekend Pass

If you can’t make it to the Irvine event, you can still take Metrolink to Los Angeles for the Golden Dragon Parade and Festival. Metrolink offers a Weekend Pass for only $10. This pass allows a passenger to ride anytime, anywhere systemwide from 7 p.m. on Friday through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. The Weekend Pass includes free rail and bus connections throughout Southern California.

How to Purchase the $10 Weekend Pass

The $10 Weekend Pass is available for purchase at all Metrolink Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) located at the train station platform starting at 7 p.m. on Fridays. Check our weekend schedule for departure times.
