Cycling Adventure

Take Metrolink and enjoy a cool beach cruise between the two Metrolink stations that serve San Clemente.


This easy cycling adventure includes recommendations for historic places to visit and wonderful spots to get a coffee or meal. There’s even a great place to rent a beach cruiser if you don’t want to bring your bike on Metrolink.

The route

This easy, sandy, 3.25-mile out-and-back ride is for cyclists who want a lazy day cruising along the beach between the north station down to the pier and back. We’ve pointed out some places for meals, some historic sites, a great coffee spot and shop that rent bikes. Use this link or select the map to view the route in detail. Route highlights include:

1. Coffee at Moulin (formally Ellie’s Table)
2. A quick peak at the famous San Clemente Casino.
3. Beach cruise to the San Clemente Pier
4. Lunch at the base of the pier.
5. Side trip to Casa Romantica

Rentals and refreshments

There is a bike rental shop and a number of places to get a cup of coffee before embarking on your adventure. Here are the details:

A bit of area history

Explore some of the history surrounding the San Clemente North Metrolink station by bike. There are several historic structures that reflects the vision of the city founder Ole Hanson when developing his beachside community. Route highlights

1. Start by heading north to visit the Ole Hanson Beach Club and pick-up coffee and sweets at Moulin located at the historic Casino San Clemente.

2. Retrace your tracks and pick up the San Clemente Beach Trail at the south end of the Metrolink station parking lot.

3. Cruise the San Clemente Beach Trail and follow the path along the coast to Pier Beach and the San Clemente Pier.

4. Find a cool place to eat. Here are some options:

5. Take the optional side trip to Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens. Warning, there’s a bit of a hill but the view is worth it!

The train station

The San Clemente North Beach station is one of two stops in San Clemente. This station is located steps away from the beach. When you hop off the train you are literally minutes from claiming your spot on the sand!

Bikes on Metrolink

Yes, you can bring your bikes on Metrolink. We even have a special car dedicated to bike storage. It is typically the third passenger car and is clearly marked. Please review Metrolink's bike guidelines.

Train schedules

We always suggest when planning your adventure to check the Metrolink train schedule to the San Clemente North Beach Station. Both the Orange Line and Inland Empire-Orange County Line serves this station.
