Richard D. Murphy
Councilmember, City of Los Alamitos
Director Richard Murphy currently serves as Mayor of Los Alamitos. A long-time resident, he was raised in Los Alamitos from 1964 to 1978, moving back permanently in 1997.
Director Murphy was appointed to the City’s Traffic Commission in January 2012 and was elected to the City Council in November 2012. He was named Mayor Pro Tem in December 2013 and Mayor in December 2014 and again in December 2015. Orange County's
City Selection Committee appointed Murphy as a city council representative to the OCTA Board of Directors in January 2017.
In his professional career, Director Murphy practiced as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) for over 25 years and managed his own firm before working as a financial officer of various public and private companies. He is currently a real estate investor and broker in Southern California.
In addition to his Council duties, Murphy currently serves as a Director of the Orange County Sanitation District. He previously served as Vice Chairman of Westcom and on the Executive Committee of the Orange County Library Advisory Board.
